I expected more from this. It was a bit boring, and not much happened, and I could see the plot twist from honestly pretty much the beginning. (And honestly,
the fact that the book was called "My Lovely Wife" didn't really help, either. It was a dead giveaway that Millicent was more sinister than the main character assumed
.) There were a few twists and turns that were intriguing, but Downing kind of concentrated on the wrong things all the time, and a lot of things didn't really make sense. For example, the reason why they started killing in the first place. (Also. Almost everything could've been prevented if the main character had actually communicated with his wife sometimes.)

A bit disorganized and chaotic.  Perhaps this was on purpose.  Was able to follow but was not emotionally invested in any character.

I’ve seen this book all over and was always on the fence about it. I’m kicking myself for not listening to this audiobook earlier. This is the 2nd book I’ve read by the author. Just like the last audiobook written by her, I could not stop listening to this one. I listened straight through. Mild sexual content. Mild swearing. Off to look up another book written by Downing.

I imagine Millicent as the older version of Love Quinn. That’s what was going through my head the more I read. Her husband had sprinkles of Joe but not a ton of traits to compare the two. So as far as thrillers go, this was definitely thrilling. A husband and wife who have been married for a long time (almost twenty years) and they decide to “spice things up” However, while the beginning and the end were great, I was still left feeling a little puzzled as to why murder in the first place. What was their criteria? So I had unanswered questions that could have been more expanded upon in the middle. The middle is where I felt a little bored. This is definitely fast paced and moves quickly so don’t let the copious amount of chapters threaten you.

omg this was very tense and very compelling right from the get go. at the start, i began to realise how much potential it had for a layered storyline and lots of plot twists, and my expectations were somewhat met? i found myself getting bored throughout the middle. but holy shit, it has a super twisted and crazy ending, making it more enjoyable overall. the actual murders aren’t really the main focus of the book, which is what i was expecting. it isn’t very gruesome or gory compared to other thriller/mystery/crime books. also a certain niche in books i love is where the protagonist is unnamed, it adds a whole new element of interest for some reason! i’d say this book is well thought out enough, but it could’ve gone even deeper on a psychological level and had a more tightly woven plotline with more believability.
