I always enjoy Marian Keyes' storytelling voice. But this book was a bit of a flop for me - 2.5*. The story and characters were a bit of a mess. I only really got into one of them (Carla).
really enjoyed this!! Very Irish in a non-cringy way (unlike the WACA series lol). Also love the fact that direct provision and period poverty was addressed, hopefully it’ll result in more people educating themselves on same :) it was quite long but because of the amount of characters it didn’t feel arduous.
Sooo in love with this book. Funny, heartbreaking, and incredibly captivating.
This would be 7th or 8th Marian Keyes book and not really my favourite. Followed the same rules as previous books but more characters, more drama and more side issues ..... and therein I guess lies the problem ...I couldn't really keep track and couldn't relate to any of the characters. It missed the humour her books usually had and took me an astounding week to get through when normally I'd bang it out in a night. Thinking on it a trilogy might have been better show casing the three woman seperately, who were definitely more interesting then the men. Or maybe more conclusions ....well tbh when I say conclusions I'd liked to have seen Liam in prison lol. Still worth the time, I never once thought about not finishing it.
It was okay but definitely too long because there were several parts that were completely redundant and almost verbatim said the exact same things. The ending was confusing because it didn’t really end. It was my first Marian Keyes book and possibly my last.

this is the first book of this plot style i've read and i really enjoyed it. constantly switcing between the characters helped weave an intricate story and the interplay between them was fantastic. i do wish more time had been spent at the "un-weaving" during the dinner scene. every secret was revealed so quickly that a single secret standing alone didn't have the same impact i wish it had. above all, each character ended up exactly where i think they deserved. i particularly loved that the book ended on cara and ed and i loved the way nell and ferdia's story came to a close as "two tiny gems".
loved the length of the book as well as the language used; easy to follow but stylistic
a delicious summer read chalk full of interesting characters, romance, intrigue and scandal.
mammoth of a book but great for killing time in isolation lol. Liked Marian Keyes' writing, want to read more of her work :)

If I could give this book 6 stars, I would. It was waaayyy over my expectations.
Reading this book felt like a looong hug; a hug that at some point take your breath away, but then it eases up again. Sounds corny but that's what it felt like.
This book has a lot of characters, but thanks to the family tree in the beginning of the book, and the excellent writing (the characters were all unique and memorable) - it was easy to learn who was who and what their relationship to the other characters were.
I also appreciate that although this book is pretty long (632 pages), it never got me bored. It always happened something; when one event was done, we were introduced to the next one. I also loved the beginning where we found ourselfs at Johnnys birthday-dinner, but, we didn't get to find out what happened at the dinner until the end, where we once again found ourselfs at the same dinner, but got the full version of what happened. It was such a genius way to tie the story together.
genius genius genius genius, I can't wait to read more boos of [a:Marian Keyes|6104|Marian Keyes|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1609855198p2/6104.jpg] !!
