This book fed my mythology-loving soul. I bought a copy so that I could write notes in it. I don't think any other translation comes close to making this story as enjoyable and interesting.

DNF - barely started. the poetry is too thick to be intelligible.

I'm not too sure if it was my lack of knowledge in the Greek mythology, or of how Goethe wanted to interpret Faust part II as, but it lost me halfway through.

As far as I'm concerned, Part two brings us to an older Faust whose memory of he's lover (part I) is all washed away.

It could be that I'm deciphering it wrongly, that part I and II doesn't match up or purely poor translation. I'm not too impressed by how it went :/

Maybe I'm reading the wrong edition? Part Two was a lot shorter than Part One, short enough to finish in a study hall, and the perfect rhyming verses have worn off their amazed effect on me after several hundred pages of it. And Part One was simply a lot more *interesting*. But you still can't deny this is great stuff.

Okay, to be completely honest, I probably would have given this book two stars up until the very end. It was a tough read for me, probably because it's all in poetry and there are so many characters to keep track of. But the ending changed everything. I realized that this book is very much a book about redemption. It really is only through the Lord that we can be saved.
