I have never heard a negative thing about this book and it constantly comes up as a recommended novel. Not being a fan of classics, I avoided it for a bit. (It also does not help that this thing has a beast of a page count). Well, now I'm starting it and I see what you all mean. I've barely scratched the surface and it's great so far!

I just feel like Mercedes had it rough… and yes I get Dantes did too but he at least had a better ending.

It's way too long for what it is, and it's very soap-opera-ish. Maybe I'm just disillusioned because of the movie.

I really liked it. Not the same as the movie, but I shouldn't really be surprised about that by now. I worried that I would get lost trying to follow the story, because that tends to happen with historical books for me sometimes. But I didn't have too much trouble.

I may pick this one back up someday, but right now is not the time. I tried to read this with the Game of Tomes book club,  but I found out too late that the copy I had was the abridged version, and it also had some printing errors in it which made it hard to read some pages.
