I re-read this book (now when I'm writing it's over half a year since I read it my second time). But I want to write a review. I know that I didn't love it as much as I did the first time I read it. I think it might be beacuse I know what will happend or it could be that I've grown more with my reading and the style I like. It's still an great book, and I think peopel should read it. Especialy if your a fan of a band, you get an inside to there lives, and i think that might be a reason of why I didn't love it as much.

When i read it the first time I was deap down in the K-Pop comunityt but this year (2024) I haven't listend like at all to K-Pop so my fangirling wasn't as stong. It might have been a part of me not faling head first for this book a second time.

Review for my first reading of this book (audiobook)

The 28th of July 2023 - 5 stars

I LOVE THIS BOOK!!! Go read it right now!! <3

Now I've read all the four big books by Alice Oseman and this one is absolutly my favorite one out of them.

In this book we get to follow Angel who is a big fan of the most popular boyband at the time: "The Arc". She is truly one of my favorite character in this book, along with the whole band. Angel feels like a real person with what she say and do. I can totally see us as friends.

The part I really enjoyed with this book, was that we also get to follow Jimmy who is one of the members in "The Arc". He struggles with allot of anxiety both personally, but also from being in the band. To follow his bandmates thinking and doing was a big highlight of this book.

I really felt like Angel allot of time while listening to the audiobook. I think we have allot of similarities,  example of that being to have dedicated allot (if not all) of my teenage years to fan-girling over different bands (and fictional characters). Listening to allot of things that she and her friends talked about was something that brought back memories.

I loved to see the differences of the same thing from the two perspectives. That is truly what I liked the most about this book. Some dual p.o.v. can be messy, and hard to understand, but Oseman know how and when to switch and what to keep and what to not. So to live thru Angel as a fan, but also to see Jimmy's point of view as someone in the spotlight was what I loved. To be reminded of the good parts that allot of famous people experience, but most importantly all the bad things that a fan don't see.

I would like all people to read this book, I loved it (!!), but especially all the fans of bands and other real and famous people to see what can be going on behind the cameras. It's not all sunshine and rainbows and it's important to understand that.

I really love Oseman’s work, and this novel was no exception. My favorite part was the amazing cast of characters who we actually got to know beyond the surface through their conversations. I also really like when stories are told alternately through two character’s perspectives, and the length and pacing of the chapters fit well with the ebbs and flows of the action in the book. I found this novel very difficult to put down!

Angel’s whole world revolves around her love for the boy band Ark, so her and her internet bestie make plans to meet for the first time in real life to go to the Ark concert. Jimmy is a member of Ark and is having a lot of difficulties with the stress and anxiety of being in one of the biggest band in the world. This book follows each character as they go throughout the week learning a lot about themselves, what they prioritize in life and their friendships.  I really love the diversity of this book and that the main characters are very religious but not in a problematic or traumatic way, they just find peace and happiness in their God.

"Angel Rahimi's life is all about The Ark, a teenage pop-rock band. Being a fan shapes her identity, friendships, dreams, and place in the world."
This book taught me a lot.
We often care so much about celebrities, TV shows, movie characters, and comics that they become part of who we are. But they don't define us.
Angel is so caught up in The Ark that she forgets about her own life. She doesn't think about her mom, her friends, or herself. Her love for the band can't fill the empty space in her heart. This hits her at a concert. It's a powerful moment that moved me.
My English isn't perfect, but I'll try my best to share how the band members impacted me. I felt a connection with Jimmy, who struggles with anxiety that often overpowers him, he always seems a bit off, he’s also obsessed in a way. Rowan's intense fanhood, his need for the band, I find Rowan fascinating as a character. Despite ending up as just friends with Bliss, from his viewpoint, their story is tragic. Like Lister, Rowan is also filled with pent-up anger specially towards his fans.
Lister isn't my favourite character, but he's special to me. He's a sad guy who needs some love. I think a lot about his deep love for Jimmy but his refusal to consider the possibility of being loved back, and about his willingness to sacrifice for them. He loves Jimmy secretly and would do anything for them. Lister hides his feelings in parties, drinking, and smoking, and seeks approval from Rowan and others. He's as obsessed as Angel and Rowan.
This book makes me think of bands like One Direction or BTS. It shows that any fandom can be harmful, like the explicit fanfiction that come up about actual living human beings
