A quick historical fiction tale about an 11 yo boy that accidentally finds himself amid battle during the American revolution. Written in easy language for younger elementary kids to absorb easily & focuses on a lesser known battle from the war - The Battle of Brooklyn (aka The Battle of Long Island).
I only gave 3 stars because I wished the author had went a little deeper with explanations within the plot and time line. However I did enjoy her added facts about the Revolutionary War at the end of the book.

I really enjoyed how the fictional characters shared the adventures and escapades from the American Revolution. While the book is fiction, it imparts important information regarding the battles from this significant time in history.

Boy orphan. Mean uncle. Escape from the frying pan into the fire (the revolutionary war, that is). Reluctant readers eat this series up, and they are friendly for low level readers looking for an exciting plot. Plus a little historical info included. I liked them ok.

Read aloud with my son who is studying the Revolutionary War in school and he wanted to read it. This is my first I survived and it was informational without being to dry or in depth. My kids at school LOVE this series.

I love this series and I love the American Revolution, so obviously I adored this. Would for sure recommend to my students. I don’t rate books that are written for such a young audience, but I really enjoyed it.
