Yet another of the new Mary Higgins Clark nvoels that I really enjoyed!
My heart did sink a little when I saw Alvirah Meehan's name, as occassionlly I find her a tedious character, but I was pleasantly surprised this time around.
I worked out the culprit about half way through and was happily surprised when my prediction (which is usually wrong) was correct.

Typical MHC fare. Quick and easy read. Nothing groundbreaking but enjoyable all the same.

When I first read that Alvirah and Willy Meehan were in this book I thought, "not again." I was worried that MHC was turning into her daughter with the serial stories. In the end I found this book touching and suspenseful and emotionally engaging. As always MHC writes really enjoyable suspense novels that are at times quite intelligent and spark the quest for further knowledge on my part, not just hokey detective stories. With this book she again proves that she is indeed the "Queen of Suspense" in popular fiction. Generally after reading her books I want to give her a hug, rather than punch her in the face (James Patterson, I'm looking at you.)

A friend of mine loves Mary Higgins Clark, so I decided to give her a chance. I don't feel like I wasted much time reading this since it was a quick read. I'm a big fan of mystery (especially a good Sherlock story), but I don't feel this book challenged the reader at all. Much of the character dialogue seemed to repeat redundant details and facts but did little to endear the characters to the reader.
I really wanted to like this book since I am a history buff and the plot centered around the murder of an archaeology professor and a priceless artifact, but I just couldn't. I'm not saying I expected a piece of classic literature, but I've had more fun reading young adult mysteries. Maybe I'll give MHC another try... I guess I picked one of her least popular books.

I didn’t really enjoy the last Mart Higgins Clark book I read, but this one was from a free pile and I am running out of quarantine reading material. Still am not impressed with MHC. Her writing is VERY much so at an elementary level. I didn’t feel challenged at all in my thinking or reading.
Oh well, on to the next read!
