Wow. This series was fantastic! The author provides a very creative, beautifully designed world that you just want to delve into and spend all your days. I got the three books in one and couldn't put it down. I highly recommend them to any fantasy lovers.

This book was about so much and so little at the same time. I never felt connected to the characters because we never actually got to spend time with them. Which is a shame. I would have loved to fall in love with these characters. The antics of the enemies was on the level of Team Rocket from Pokemon, which really made things feel... pointless. I have no idea why the ending had to be the way that it was. It felt like there were so many other ways to deal with the issue and none of which required the level of effort taken.

This is one of my favorite series of all time. I have read it numerous times and it is the series I wish I had thought up.

DID NOT FINISH

zu lang.

Awesome, Awesome, Awesome! This book has so many surprises, twists, turns and every intrigue imaginable. The scenes are very relationship driven and the author was so masterful at making you feel like you knew each character intimatey. I have not read a book in so long that I actually felt like I had to have a moment of silence when I had finished the last page. I know that is sounds corny, but it is so very true.

Magical cock rings. Benevolent talking unicorns. Super confusing world building. A heroine, Jaenelle, who is the most wonderfullest, magical being EVAR to grace the world. Lame mustache-twirling villains. And so much snarling...I counted the word used three times on one page. Honestly, if I heard Jaenelle's eyes described as "sapphire," her voice described as "midnight" (WTF does that even mean?), or if she "fluffed" her hair one more time I was going to cut a bitch. Or have one of the ever-present glasses of booze all of the men turned to in times of crisis.

...did I mention the MAGICAL COCK RINGS? (These are worn for a multitude of purposes in the book, but never the reason men actually wear them IRL. IfyaknowwhatImsayin.)

There were real glimmers of hope: a big, well-rounded cast, an interesting premise and narrative structure, some very likable, multi-faceted characters. And to be fair, I had a hard time putting it down.

But major rookie mistakes. Don't tell me someone has a terrible temper: show me. The magic was insanely inconsistent...black jewels were built up to be these amazing things, but the people wielding them never did much except wander around the mental abyss "spearing" things (and very little spearing of each other, which was a shame). The book read like bad fanfic, with a Mary Sue heroine that out Mary Sues any other Mary Sue ever dreamed up.

I did love Daemon and Saetan. Although I did not need to read about Daemon taking a MAGICAL COCK RING off his Dad's "organ." And I've got no clue why someone who is 1700 years old would fall in love with a 12 year old...ever. But again, you just can't argue with Mary Sue.

Sigh.

Gross story. Rape, grooming, pedaphila, violent sexual assault? No thank you.

The trigger warnings overshadowed the plot in the first and second books, which I hated. The sexual assault/abuse of the men and the extreme (and explicit) pedophilia of young children were so incredibly uncomfortable and unnecessary to read, seemed like it was just written for shock factor and not to move the plot forward.

Loved the third book when the plot finally took precedence over the sexual abuse (hence the 2 stars), but it seemed to end too abruptly. I can’t in good conscience recommend this to anyone.
