Absolutely harrowing. I can't believe the sophistication and depth of Mottley's writing on a project she started when she was just 17. I can't wait to keep reading her work in the future. As for this specific work, I think it's such a testament to empathy that it should be even more widely read. Incredible debut.

I really wanted to like this book, but it just wasn’t as good as I’d hoped it would be…  It was a solid debut novel, but the author definitely left room for growth. The prose was good, but the scenes were too jumpy and sometimes just cut too short to really “feel” them. I’m sure that was intentional, but I just ended up being confused at certain points and had to go back a couple of lines just to find the plot threat again. I loved the ending as it was -unfortunately- very realistic as did the plot of the entire book. This is also why I just can’t wait to read more from this author, hoping that the writing will improve over time.
