Couldn’t enjoy this. There’s just too much action going on. Like, almost on every single page. What helped me going through was just the short paged chapters.
I thought that I’d know more about Thomas or the others from this. Instead, there were these random people helping this one little immune girl named Deedee. Reading this book was exhausting, really.

Before I even go into this I need to say this: Read the version that has the Forgotten Secrets Revealed inside. It changed the entire novel. If you've already read it, go back and find one that has this in it and read it. It's extremely important.
I know there's mixed reviews about this but a lot of them come from people not finishing this book. You need to know going into this book that is does not have any of the gladers in it, but going into the book, I had a HUGE suspicion that some of the characters would tie into the characters in The Maze Runner. I'm not going to tell you whether I was right or not, I'm just saying that's what kept me going and I'm glad I finished it.
I was struggling to finish this book because it wasn't interesting me. From the beginning I knew that a lot of characters were going to die, so I already accepted that and it didn't influence me to finish it. Also, Mark is a very flawed character. I got pissed at him so many times for only thinking about how he gets to snuggle up with Trina and not even caring that his entire family was dead. He definitely got better as the novel progresses.
Here are my pros about this book:
Learning about the origin of the Flare and its progression.
The action kept me on the edge on my seat and there was a lot of it
The ending was beautiful.
The Bonus Material: Forgotten Secrets Revealed.
I really enjoyed this book.

JAMES DASHNER WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK IS WRONG WITH U BRO 😭😭😭😭😭💔💔💔💔 the ending made me sob, the book was quite fast paced which was what made me keep going, if the pacing slower i don’t think i would’ve finished it, if ur going to do anything, READ IT FOR THE EDNING.
The book was pretty good, but I'm not too partial to prequels that don't really have a strong tie to the actual series. The set up was there, but the characters weren't. So, I felt like at the end there was a quick nod to a character that features in the actual series but it felt a bit disjointed. Still a decent read, but just not one of my favorites.
