THIS BOOK IS AMAZING!! It’s not often that I read a book that is so good that I can’t put it down, this book I just wanted to keep reading more and more. The writing style is so unique and I love how we really see the story through Tori’s mind. The character development is also great and the plot is quite thrilling at parts as well.

I am a really big fan of Heartstopper and read/watched that before I read Solitaire but I honestly think Solitaire is the best story that Alice Oseman has written, and that says a lot since Heartstopper is truly excellent. I just love the characters so much and got super attached to them throughout the book.

It’s just an excellent book and definitely one of my new favorite books, anyone who enjoys Heartstopper NEEDS to read this. Arguably even people who aren’t fans of Heartstopper should read this as well, there’s a bit more “action” and it’s a bit more chaotic than Heartstopper which I loved. Plus getting to see characters that I knew originally from Heartstopper and getting to learn way more about them was awesome.

I should have given up on this book, but I made myself finish it (when will I learn?). I’ve read several of Oseman’s other books and watched the Heartstopper series, but this one doesn’t live up to any of those. It jumped around too much, was so melodramatic, and I just couldn’t make myself connect with it (trust me, I tried).

it kind of hurts to give this such a low rating. I loved the heartstopper books so much, and had such hopes for Tori's story, but it just didn't capture me. pretty incredible that Alice Oseman wrote this when she was 17 though.

For me the context of this book is just as important as the content. It's Alice first book - written at the age of 19 - and it explores the story of Torri who later becomes a side character in Heartstopper as the sister of Charlie. I mainly read it because of this and I enjoyed learning another perspective and jumping ahead a couple of years. I very much appreciate how Alice explores tough and deep topics around depression, asexuality and pansexuality. The raw melancholy of Torri's thoughts definitely helps to connect to the character(s) and these topics. While I enjoyed this account, I at the same time found the main plot around Solitaire somewhat implausible.

There’s something so special about reading a book set in your current month. It’s poetically perfect.
