Easily the best book I've read in the past 5 years. Fromm so clearly communicates a theory of mankind, civics, interpersonal relationships, the self and how all those are affected by and are inextricably linked with economics and politics. Especially in the west.
Fromm brings worldviews from the East and West and the rest in between to paint a picture that we can all enjoy together.

A book I will return to again and again.

For a non-fiction to earn a reread, it must strike something that I want to envelope into myself and marry with my heart and mind. Fromm might not be for you, but he certainly was for me.

What is love? Is Love something we treat as a given, as a habit or an experience independent of our will and choice? Mostly, yes. We “fall” in love. We claim to love our family and friends, but doesn’t this thing that enriches our souls and the essence of our lives deserve closer examination?

So what is love then? Love is an art.

Fromm states in his first sentences that love deserves all the care, study, and practice we give towards learning arts of medicine or painting, and I can’t help but agree.

I have so much to say about this book that I won't because it ruins the value of reading it yourself. I recommend wholeheartedly taking an afternoon to dive into this work of (fittingly) art and love. My view of love has been influenced by this book more than anything else I've read in the past few months.
