Impactful memoir. Really well-written mechanically-speaking. At times a little repetitive, but it’s hard to fault a memoir for that, and it’s based on events in the author’s life, and it seems she dealt with a number of the same repetitive struggles.

Personal memoir showing how difficult it is to get out of poverty. Stephanie Land is a wonderful writer and took me on a journey of emotions as she described her life.

There were things I loved about this book and things I hated about this book.

The author does a lovely job of describing what it is like to struggle for basic necessities. Believe me. Been there, done that. A lot of people would do well to read this and learn that most people who are struggling financially are fiercely fighting to do better.

What I didn't enjoy was feeling like I was reading the same thing over and over again. I wasn't, but the whole story was her cleaning, complaining, kid being sick and cleaning some more. A few small, but cringeworthy moments for me were when she mentions trying on a cashmere sweater that belongs to the homeowner of one of the houses she cleans. Also, snooping around reading their notes and mail. Yikes! Remember when I said been there, done that? I've also cleaned houses and that was always a huge no no in my book.
