I enjoyed this book immensely. I learned about whole mountain towns of coal miners in Appalachia who had simply moved from Italy to the US for work. I initially thought this book would be about that. It wasn't quite that, but the characters were really great.
I loved this book! I can't believe that it took me 13 years to get around to reading this series. A heartwarming story.
This book started out slow, and picked up the pace a little bit, but it was just pretty steady and simple, and I loved it. I loved how flawed and real the main character/narrator of this story was. Yes it was a love story, but there was so much more to it than that. Each character was so fun to read about in this story that I see myself reading the sequel very soon. If you are looking for an easy read about charming, simple, southern characters, read this.
I liked this book. It was fun to listen to. Only three stars because the characters weren't as consistent as I'd like them to be and there were quite a few plot lines that seems to come from nowhere and end up nowhere. But, overall an easy and fun read for the summer.
It took me a few chapters to get involved in this book...perhaps because of the time period or location but I didn't feel very invested in the characters or the plot. However, I'm glad that I stuck with it because I really enjoyed the last half of the book. I started to like Ave Maria and wanted to know about her family from Italy and her life in Big Stone Gap. I'm looking forward to reading the next books in the series.
Funny and with quirky characters though not particularly insightful, and the book is weakest when it is most serious. Enjoyable for a light read.
I LOVED this book! It's great when you can fall in love with the characters and genuinely care about what happens to them.
This book had me laughing and crying. I am so glad this is a series and I can't wait to read the second book!

I loved the saga of Ave Maria and Jack Mac. This was not the best book in the series, but tied everything together nicely.
I enjoyed her writing style immensely. I felt like I took a trip to the mountains & to Italy. I was expecting a series similar to Mitford or the Harmony books, but was surprised to find a saucier, racier tale. She is truly a great storyteller & the character development was fun so far.
This book was just ok for me. The others had tighter, more interesting storylines. But I will miss the characters that make up the town of Big Stone Gap and their shenanigans.
