Great first half....then...not so much.

Never finished. Dragged on.

A lot of characters to keep up with, but the plot held strong.

It is hard to write about a whole life of a person, yet writing some parts of it, it is already very extraordinary.

In a nutshell: a book by a writer, about writers who write about writers.

Of John Irving's books, this is definitely a solid midlister.

Despite my snark, I did enjoy it.

I think this is the one that reads like a variety of essays crammed together into something resembling a novel.

"Chronicles the life of a complex, abrasive woman born in the shadow of her siblings' deaths and her parents' adultery, who only finds love after motherhood and widowhood." (From Amazon)

I really enjoyed this family saga novel. It was very well written and the story moves at a great pace.
