This book really wasn’t what I was expecting which in turn formed some of my opinion on it. The book is somewhat listless, significantly less about an end destination and more about how Mona sees the world and people around her. Regardless of the sort of conventionally plotless nature, the writing was incredibly compelling and the story itself was heart wrenching and gut punching almost constantly. While there were funny moments, I’m not sure if I would consider it a dark comedy so much as it is a disturbing and unusual coming into onself story.

Jen Beagin’s writing makes me so uncomfortable but I can’t put her books down.

Beginning was really good, but then the end sort of dwindled. Feels a little like trauma porn. But I am invested in the characters now. Wouldn’t call it good, but still would like to continue the series.
