I just didn’t care enough about the characters. Each chapter about a different character was just long enough to maybe peak an interest but not enough that I cared when I didn’t get a full understanding. The writing felt half-assed, I don’t believe the author cared enough about the characters. The whole sad theme also left me depressed, “if you’re poor, you’re going to stay that way until you die a sad, lonely death.” The ending also left me unfulfilled and irritated I finished the book to just be left with that. Honestly made me feel like the author was also bored with her characters and wanted to be done with them.
