There are interesting ideas in this book, but ultimately it’s too far-fetched to be believable as the characters are and not whimsical enough for the absurdities presented. Definitely a beach read, but not a particularly satisfying one.
I devoured this super fast and it's definitely got me interested in reading more Wickham. While I was trying very hard not to compare Wickham with Kinsella, I liked this side of dark Wickham better as compared to, say the Shopaholic series.
A very unlikable main character. This book also ends very abruptly, and somewhat disappointingly. Fleur manipulates people and there never seems to be any sort of recourse for her actions. She doesn't seem to have affection for her own daughter.
Daring heroine not totally acceptable but she has her own reasons. A curious set of characters- I really hate Emily, Lambert and pity Richard, Philippa, Gillian and Antony. But a rushed open ending which is not typical in Madeleine Wickham books.
Very anticlimactic ending and not very believable. I would call this book mildly entertaining, at best.
The story overall was much much better than I was expecting. While I am a HUGE Sophie Kinsella fan I wasn’t too impressed with the other Madeline Wickham book I read. But this was much more enjoyable. The ending was pretty lackluster though and I let out a disappointed “oh” when I closed the book. But the rest of the story up to the end was fun
another audiobook. was entertaining enough for my drive. narrator was only okay
