A solid read. Well written action scenes and main characters. I do think the secondary characters were not as well drawn.

Just taking too long to really get started, the characters are not doing it for me, they're too real in a very "grimy" kinda way... Only characters I liked were Maggie and Lou, and poor Lou is fat, and we are told just how fat he is every damn time he's mentioned. To the point where the way he's described at times feels fatphobic, you know? And it's SO much. Jesus. Charlie Manx, also, very interesting villain. But again, it took way too long to get to the point. We get dribs and drabs here and there (I stopped at 43%, it may have picked up after this point but I'm so mentally checked out) and the narrative is so ... jagged. Lots of POV hopping, and changes in time period and such. It's messy. I just don't think this one is for me. Sadly. I was so excited, too.

You can tell he is Stephen King's son with this book. He even mentions Pennywise's Circus. Wonderfully flawed characters who grow and one who doesn't. Vic and Charlie make great adversaries. I loved when Vic realized that Charlie genuinely thinks he is doing good and that he really loves the children. I love that Vic is not an angel of a hero, but in some ways an anti-hero. She makes a lot of mistakes, but overcomes them in the end.

This book was like a fever dream. Joe Hill has an amazing ability to transport you to the past and present with the intricate descriptions and details. I feel while this book got off to a slower start, it really takes the time to build the characters and then the climax hits and you're fully invested. The villains were HORRIFYING as well. Check trigger warnings!

This was good, but a little too long that I felt some parts dragged. I thought the concept was interesting, but I do personally wish that it was as supernatural as it was. This didn’t really creep me out and there was only like two or three kind of gross moments ( mostly relating to Bing). A lot of the characters were actually really funny. I also didn’t really love the ending to be honest.
