This is my second favourite book in the ACOTAR series. But it has its flaws.

What I liked:
-
I think that the description of depression and being able to see it through Nesta was powerful. It was clear that Nesta was struggling, and we were shown this in many ways (rather than told, which I hate.)

- The friendships that Nesta developed
- The overall storyline - I love this world but what I liked about this book in particular is getting to see it through Nesta's eyes.

What I didn't like (and why it didn't get rated higher)
-
I disliked how Nesta's family treated her. There were so many instances, especially at the beginning of the book. Nesta is struggling, and their answer is to shun her and make her shelve books and work out?

-
Cassian, though a character I enjoy reading, really only seemed to be invested in Nesta because she was his mate. He wasn't helping her because it was the right thing to do; he was helping her because he wanted her. Azriel contrasted this - he didn't have to be there, didn't have to be kind, and yet he was just as solid of a rock, probably more so because it was his choice.

- The backstory that takes place behind Nesta's healing journey wasn't developed enough. It was almost like it was there to be there. We caught glimpes and pieces but none of it was written well enough to be interesting.
I wish that Eris was better developed - there is a lot there and perhaps we'll see more in future books.

The most frustrating thing about these books, actually any of Maas' books, is that because there are more coming she doesn't do a good job of sprinkling crumbs.
Eris is a good example - we might see more of him in future stories, and because of that she didn't take the time to make his time in this book as well written as it should have been.
An example of crumbs that were done well was Cassian explaining the prison to Nesta and mentioning that he thought the prison was stocked with inmates to hide the harp and other powerful things. The description of the chamber the harp was in. Those are very important details for when you read Cresent City, they aren't thrown in your face or highlighted too much, and are well written.

A court of silver flames is beautifully written and made understand, love, and relate to Nesta so much.

I was a solid Nesta hater- so much so it took me weeks to start this book after finishing ACOFAS, but now I feel like she’s the character I relate to most as a girl with BPD.

This book is the spiciest of the series, and has the most character development out of the series, this book felt more magical than the others, like whimsical almost, the love was strong and the spice was stronger but it also features parts that made me cry, laugh and put the book down out of literal fear. This is the best book in the series by far and I cannot wait for the next book.

Out of all the books in this series this one had the most sexual content. I expected some going into this book but not this much. Not that I'm complaining. This book was very spicy.

This book was a wild ride. I could not stand Nesta at the start of this book, I HATED her guts. She got under my skin and it almost felt like torture to read through the parts in her POV. I stuck with it though, mainly because
I wanted wanted to know more about Rhys and Feyre's baby,
and I actually started to care about Nesta.

There were some interesting parts beyond all the sex scenes. I liked getting to see the bonds Nesta made and follow those storylines but the book was mainly sex. Again, not complaining.

The book was a great read, I devoured it in the span of 7 days. I really hope there are more, I'm not ready to let go of this world.

Genre: Fantasy, Romantasy
My rating (audiobook): 5
My OG rating (book): 5
My summary: Nesta has been drowning herself in booze, gambling, and casual sex with random males to cope with her trauma of her and Elaine being made into fae and her father’s death at the hands of the King of Hybern. Fed up with footing the bill for Nesta’s irresponsible hobbies, Rhysand and Feyre and the rest of the Night Court give her an ultimatum—live at the House of Wind and train with Cassian and work in the library, or be cut off from them and returned to the human lands. Cassian, taking on more responsibilities from Rhysand, is also tasked with babysitting Nesta and training her at the House of Wind. There’s always been something simmering between Cassian and Nesta, and this arrangement is sure to make them or break them.
My thoughts: This was one of my favorite books of the series when I first read it in June 2023. The audiobook did not disappoint. I absolutely loved the narrator. I thought she was excellent and it really made it enjoyable to listen to, and even though it’s super long, it didn’t really feel like it. This is, by far, my favorite narrator of the ACOTAR audiobook series to date.

To resonate with Nesta means to know the trauma. And how you overcame the dark troves within or are facing it. It is not a direct reflection on your own turmoil. No, the things Nesta said out of spite are never acceptable. But the sharp twisted reasoning behind it is the swift cut that trauma recognizes.  And how, you too, clawed your way out— teeth and all.

I was hesitant to read this based on the rapid MFC hate. But, my goodness, this is a treasure among my collection. The mural of healing from trauma is a strewn ugly thing. Everyone has their own vision for how a person is supposed to recognize, face and heal from their infliction. Until the mirror is turned and you have to dwell with the edged darkness.
A lot is skimmed over having their (Nesta and Elaine’s) mortality ripped forcibly away within Hybern’s control. Their mortal bodies were pushed into plunging cold waters of endless darkness to be drowned as mortals, then raised as High Fae. And while Elaine shields her traumas by burying it in the ground and her mind, Nesta guards herself. Tearing apart everyone who dares to look at her with love and care as her father had. And while that's not excusable for her raunchy behavior, it gives an insight to the broken mind of a young woman. This journey is of all the bridges Nesta Archeron burned and the new ones she Made.
This read was a beautiful mess. So much worldbuilding, strong character development (main and not), and the leading
edge to the fourth Trove item
