OMGGGGGG I LOVED THIS BOOK

the plot GAVE and i loved almost every second of it (although i do have many questions..) i loved the sequences of her training and her working in the library and the small yet strong improvements each day. i really enjoyed the prison scene, as i felt it was a major step for her and showed her power and showed what could be done with it!! i also really loved the ball scene. i believed nesta’s relationship with her mother could have been explored more - i felt we learnt more from elain in the ball scene than anywhere else nesta explained their relationship.

nesta’s character and her character development was beautiful and i loved watching the slow but steady process of her mental health improving. i thought the portrayal of mental health was really well done, showing the ups and downs and the constant fears when getting better. i loved her connection to music as i can really relate to that, and i thought the scene of her visiting the priestesses service and being transported by the music was beautiful and heartwarming. however i feel her character should be explored following this book, following the blood rite as it was a major event where she killed many. i also felt like nestas relationship with her mother should have been explored more because I felt we learnt more from elain during the ball scene than from nesta at all despite her being a major influence on her life!

i loved nesta, gwyn and emerie and really hope we see more valkyries!! i hope they can one day lead a unit into battle like the cool murderous girlies they are!!! i also enjoyed gwyn x azriel - mostly i just love how wholesome and chatty gwyn is!!! i enjoyed feyre and rhys and felt there was just enough of them (it’s not there book and what they gave was nice). i loved nesta and cassians romance and felt it was really well done and wholesome. i love the respect they have for one another and how they strive to be better for each other. for the first 600 pages i found elain quite annoying and ungrateful, but also feel like her character is at a standstill - there seems to be nothing left to develop, apart from perhaps her sensitivity. i felt she rarely gave much to the plot, and for being a main character in one of the following books this is not a good sign. i liked amren in this but where was the amren/nesta bestie makeup picnic i deserve!!

we saw lots of eris, and i enjoyed his dynamic with the group. he felt to be becoming an important character and am looking forward to see how that plays out. i would love to see how he hides his alliances from his father when in the autumn court and the dynamic with that court compared to the night court. i enjoyed the ball scene and think he should share the details of mor. (i didn’t really mind she wasn’t in this book so much, didn’t really miss her as i feel she adds tension and awkwardness to the group)

the smut was there, thats all i can say except i hated some of the words used, it really irked me and like it made it feel so much less romantic and more aggressive but maybe that’s just me. i feel like going into the later books there needs to be come caution with the amount and placement of smut. i felt the smut didn’t ‘fit’ with nesta’s character but it didn’t take away or stray from it too far. the first smut chapter appeared about 30% into the book, and continued throughout. i feel like this should not happen in the later books as it will not match the characters. 1. it does not fit elain as she is not convinced AT ALL by her mate and is still mourning her fiancee and 2. it does not fit gwyn due to her traumatic past. i believe if these next books were smutless (unlikely) or the smut appeared AT LEAST halfway through the book it would fit better with the characters and not seem uncalled for and senseless.

i felt the last 100 pages were extremely fast paced and slightly rushed, but this also tied into the nature of the blood rite. i felt the conversation between gwyn, nesta and emerie where they shared their pasts and their struggles with each other was an extremely beautiful scene which i could not take at midnight!! i thought the explanation of why weapons were in the blood rite should have been expanded more, similarly to their bracelets and how it guided them to one another. i felt the ending was rushed as we didn’t really hear about nesta;s powers (or lack of) following the birth of nyx. this is where i have questions - she can’t have lost her powers rigth?!?!? 1. she spoke to the mother 2. she had so so so much power, she was basically being offered to be queen of the earth alongside lanyths and 3. i want her to become this cool warrior queen with powers and magic and can destroy anything and anyone.

honestly, i’m not sure where the plot is going to go, but i do believe they should not have killed briallyn. i really wanted to see the dynamics of the mortal queens and her immortal life and the greed that came alongside. i was excited to see this and i felt her death was so rushed as i had no idea what happened for a second. the dread trove are such an interesting bunch of objects and i believe this could have had major consequences but now with nesta’s limited powers and briallyn’s death they seem almost worthless. i feel that the stakes are low? i thought briallyn was going to be the new major major enemy - she was leading up to be - and i was excited to see her with koschei and beron. i feel that we know nothing about koschei - just that he lives in a lake and is trapped - so i don’t feel scared or enthralled or intruiged in him!! he was barely mentioned so he doesn’t seem to be this new big scary enemy and we have seen no huge impact of his existence on the populace of pyrithian - so why is he now so important? we know nothing of his plans, whether he has communication with beron - because that was the threat to the courts briallyn x beron - and don’t know what he could inflict on the courts. so what now?? i feel like its almost at a standstill, but if nesta has kept her powers or briallyn had lived, there would still be a major threat right in the courts, so i felt the book left many questions unanswered, but looking past those was really rounded off. which is nice and lovely and wholesome, but doesn’t leave much plot to be excited and anticipating for!! also felt there was no major crazy plot twist like i was expecting, but maybe next time :(

all in all i really enjoyed this book, its 10 minutes to 2am and i am not gonna be able to sleep. i am obvs excited for the next book i just hope it can live up to expectations; give a good exciting and crazy crazy plot and give nesta back her powers!!

Mixed feelings about this! Loved the whole series. But found myself just wanting to get to the end of this. It was pretty slow for the first 75%.
I loved the Valkyrie storyline and the
blood rite
- that part got really juicy. Sometimes with the ACOTAR series I’ve wanted the climax bit to last longer - the rising action almost takes too long & also a lot of explaining about stuff that happened in earlier books that I think we don’t need to go over again. I get it if it’s resolving feelings about stuff but I’ve noticed with SJM it feels like too much exposition.
Did like getting to know Cassian better - at times in earlier books couldn’t quite remember/distinguish the difference between him and Azriel personality wise. And tbh sorta liked Nesta better than Feyre in some ways? Although I did get sick of her self loathing and pity stuff
Didn’t feel like I needed the Feyre pregnant and having a baby storyline

I didn’t LOVE LOVE it, because I just really disliked how self-deprecating nesta was, like IDK it just seemed overplayed to me? But I really liked the last like 100 pages where all of sudden the plot sped up so it ended really well.
