It's about a 3.5. I can see some of the problematic things. It was good in some points, but didn't really hold my attention as much as I would have liked.

This book was objectively terrible. I cannot believe it got past the editor. The two races of characters are problematic (and rather unimaginative). And the book is boring. There is too much filler, and not enough action. I don't see what uniqueness this book brings to the table.

I thought the first book of this duology was fairly good. It was definitely a teen fiction novel but I enjoy that so overall it was enjoyable. Overall a decent read with nothing overly profound but entertaining nonetheless.

I'll admit it: I was not particularly excited to read this book. I HATED the end of the Divergent trilogy - not just the ending, but the last book and a half were awful. I was very afraid that a story by the same author would burn me again. However, I saw this in the bookstore and decided to give Veronica Roth a second chance. I really enjoyed this story. I thought the world building was excellent and the political intrigue was great. I am hoping against hope against hope that this series (however long it ends up being) will have a much more satisfactory ending.

Still one of my favourite books of all time. It's a bit slow sometimes but we really get to know the complex world and the characters.
I love Cyra and Akos and the way their story began.
Can't wait to read the second one!
