What a fun and interesting ride. Love the world. I want to learn about the whole galaxy! Can't wait to see where they travel in the next book. So many questions to be answered!

I was really excited for this book, and bought it on the day of release- but it fell a bit short of my expectations. It took me a fair while to get really into the story, and the fact that I have no idea how to pronounce the majority of names and places mentioned made it quite frustrating to read! I liked the aspect of the characters having different 'fates' looming in their futures, and also the variety of 'gifts' they all possesed. I found the structure of the book a bit strange, in that it started from Akos' perspective, switched to Cyra, and then a huge chunk of the middle of the book was only from her perspective, and then it switched back to alternating almost chapter-chapter between the two again. I did like both of their characters, though I think it might have been interesting to learn more about Ryzek, and his relationship with his sister.

I have read so many reviews about this book- after finishing it- such as people refusing to review the book because of controversy relating to racism and disrespect towards people suffering chronic pain, and I have to say that neither of those issues were apparent to me while reading the book, because to me it seems set so far from reality, in such a fantasy/scifi world, but reading the reviews I can understand how some aspects of the story could have struck a chord with some readers. When I started to see that many people found the story controversial, I actually thought it might have been because of the Shotet act of cutting marks into their arms, which inmediately struck me as relating to self-harm, but I haven't seen any reviews mentioning that.

Overall I did quite enjoy Carve the Mark, but it only gets 3 stars from me because I feel like there were so many loose ends! So many unanswered questions- surely this means there's a sequel planned?! Even though I didn't love the book, I would definitely read a sequel because I'm curious about how all the characters fates/prophecies played out, and what happened to Eijeh.

This gave my the same vibe as red queen, and I really like red queen. Although I can see the criticism this book gets, I really enjoyed the story and the characters. This was really addicting and I can't wai  to continue

While it is Veronica Roth book, which means that are a couple issues this was a really fun read!! I love the main characters and the world, it’s interesting and different. Overall a fun time

Really tried, got about half way through! A tad different than other Kingdom novels, yet I still couldn't get into it...It was so slow and repetitive! Maybe if was a bit younger...

9-17-18: I've had this book nearly two weeks and just now started to read it. I'm 6% (aka 8 pages) in and already feeling bored. I'm going to admit this right here, right now: I don't like Veronica Roth. I hated the Divergent Series, and I was hoping this book would change my mind about her. After eight pages I can already see that that just may not be the truth.

466 pages to go....

Ya'll. We gotta talk about how awful this was, but first some passages that had me unintentionally laughing:

Ryzek screamed into his teeth, and thrashed, trying to throw me off. With all the others, I had simply let my currengift go where it wanted to, and it always wanted to be shared.

That was the real winner.

Also this:

She felt like bones to him.

I've read quite a few books so far in 2018, and this one is by far the worst. It's boring, tedious, and just not all that interesting to read. I hated Cyra and felt little for Akos period, that made it pretty hard to get into the story. Also why bother setting this book in space if you don't utilize the crap out of that fact!? It just didn't make much sense. I also found the plot line to be dull and dragging, which lent to the boredom factor mightily.

Look. I didn't care much for the Divergent series, but I still gave them a three star rating. I can't do that here, because this book had no redeeming qualities for me whatsoever. It's at this point that I must forever part ways with Veronica Roth, because apparently her books and writing style are just not for me.

I'm not sure how one screams through their teeth (awkward wording is awkward), but I think I may have done it a time or thirty while reading this book.
