I have mixed feelings about the different parts in Reel.

Dessi Blue Sections: Initially, I thought this was an amazing idea. The scenes they were filming linked to real life. I still believe that. Since I used audible, I was able to hear her singing and everything. I think it was a great addition, but toward the middle/end i found myself less interested in those sections.

Terry Drama: I get it 100000% why this was included. It actually made my mouth drop at her audacity. I think a few of these parts, however, could have been cut. The book seemed very long.

Canon/Neevah: i enjoyed them and their relationship. It was genuine love from the beginning and I was always rooting for them. I love Canon’s respect for women, his closeness to his mother and his bluntness. Neevah’s confidence and strength stuck out to me.

Overall, this was a good book. I think the only thing I would do is tighten it up length wise.

Essentially a love story but also pulls you in with the sub-story.

i really enjoyed this read! i loved the take on black cinema, the connection to the civil rights movement, highlighting how lupus impacts people differently, & neevah & canon were very likable characters. the only reason that it’s not 5 stars for me is because i felt the internal dialogue got a bit repetitive at times, & i wish we got to see the movie being finished & the reception to it. however, still a wonderful book!
