I thought I was going to hate this book, and I was actually afraid to read it. I saw all the one star reviews at the top of the goodreads priority, but I refused to read any of them until I finished the book.

I too was really angry at the end of the last book, and I didn't want to admit that Eric and Sookie's relationship was just falling apart...sniff. It is rather unheard of to have one main couple throughout a series of books, and then to change it in the end seems a bit cruel. I mean, we all wanted Eric & Sookie to have their HEA, and I was totally team Eric throughout the whole series.

But, you know what...now that I am not so emotionally involved and a whole year has passed, I can see that Ms. Harris was just setting us up for the end. I really liked how the story was wrapped up and I was surprised that I was actually OK with how things ended with Sookie & Eric. The cluviel dor was truly a test of Eric's love for Sookie and her love for him, and they both failed. I also really loved how Bill was able to get back at Eric with his reveal.

Now that I have finished the book, I read those one star reviews and I couldn't believe that some of them had not even read the book. They found out some of the spoilers from other reviews or the internet, and drew their own conclusions, i.e. Eric was sold into sexual slavery for 200 years, blah blah blah. It is interesting to me that I thought that was perfectly OK for Eric. Especially since he negotiated that deal, stipulated his conditions, and agreed to Freyda's conditions as well.

I agree that the series has gone downhill, however I always had an inkling it would end how it did with this book. I've always rooted for that one, so that part at least makes me happy.

While I'm not sure I'll invest my time into another Charlaine Harris series, I will always be grateful to her for introducing me to the paranormal romance genre.

Hey, it was fun while it lasted. I'm not going to waste my energy and brainpower being disappointed or angry. It is what it is.

I attempted this book because I loved True Blood and I miss it. Unfortunately after seeing the awesomeness that is True Blood, the actual books fell flat.

I really dislike saying this and it took me about half the book to finally admit to myself that I wasn't enjoying Sookie's cloying naivety, Sam's inability to get it together, the repetitiveness (has anyone heard? Sookie loves her word of the day calendar), Sookie's need to describe in detail EVERYTHING she does including checking her bank account, reading her email, having a dumb conversation with a minor character about nothing, or (worst of all) Bon Temps without Lafayette.

In the books I find neither Bill nor Eric to have any redeeming qualities at all and I quickly got tired of Sookie having flashbacks to all the great sex they had, while they both treat her like she's an idiot (I don't blame them there, she IS an idiot).

Maybe if I would have started at the beginning, before watching True Blood, then I could have liked the books. But unfortunately for the books, I did watch True Blood first and I know what a Bill that really loves Sookie is like. A Bill that walked out into the sun and burst into flame because Sookie was in danger. I know what a Sam that stands up for himself and his life is like. I know what these characters are like when they are fully developed and doing interesting things.

So in short, watch True Blood.

Well that landed a bit flat but weirdly I still enjoyed it. This was never the most brilliant literary escapade but it was always an imaginative and enjoyable series.

This is the conclusion to the true blood/sookie stackhouse series (one i began before the TV show started) and finally sees sookie picking her final lover (Eric? Sam? Bill? Pam? I'll let you discover but be sure they all make an appearance in this finale). In fact, nearly everyone (who is still alive at this point) makes an appearance or is alluded to directly.

Needless to say sookie finds herself in a number of violent and sexy situations but unfortunately it feels like the author ran out of ideas at this point. Wasn't sure how to end the series and came up with a boring 'let's frame sookie or kill her!' storyline.

However, it had that feel good factor I have come to expect from this series and though not a mind blowing finish, it was a happy one.

I had very high hopes (and expectations) for this last book in the series I loved. I was seriously, and sadly, disappointed.

So this wasn't the best book in the series by any means but it didn't disappoint me like #12 did.
The plot was ok, though a bit frustrating in how Harris wrote the other "meanwhile"-type perspective sections. They felt awkward to me but I understand their usefulness as a catalyst.
In the end, I knew they'd end up together. I could've predicted that 7 books ago!

I have been postponing this book ever since I heard the ending was terrible. However, I tore through this book. The whole time I was reading I could tell it was the end. I thought despite many shipper feelings, that the ending was the perfect way to end the story.
