This is a lightly fictionalized telling of Empress Sisi of Austria and King Ludwig II of Bavaria and it is so enjoyable and compelling and fascinating. I described it to a friend as light and fun, but the dark of it really crept up on me and I felt grief at the end. I knew the history, some, but I still got surprised, anyway, (and loved the conspiracy theory addendum). The only times it drags is when it tries to be too accurate to the history - but those times are rare. Really well done.

It’s said to be satire but I expected more embellishment to the historical accounts and more drama I suppose. The writing is so blunt and direct that it seems more like nonfiction. I just felt bored by the lack of plot and it didn’t feel like satire
