Milo and Niall's story was beautiful. I loved the wit and the sass and the gentleness of it all. It was sweet, snarky and all around beautiful.

As the book title 'Milo' already suggests, this book is about the main character Milo. He had been in an abusive relationship and even after leaving the relationship, the scars remain etched on him. This book really shows the journey of Milo gaining self confidence and I love and adore that equally.

The writing is extremely brilliant in the book, for the events that happen all add essence to the story.

MY FAVOURITE CHARACTERS

Niall.

Niall is the other main character of the book. He made several appearances in the first book of this series and I liked him then a lot too. So no wonder he quickly became a favourite of mine this time around too. I always prefer mature characters to naive ones and Niall just had this air around him that made him the best.

It's the patience and love of his character that draws me in. He is extremely confident and proud about who he is and might come as overwhelming at times, but the way he treated Milo throughout the book even before realising his potential romantic feelings for him is amazing.

He is a character that knows what it wants and strives for it, but at the same time maintains that slight pinch of insecurity too. Ironic as it may seem to his character traits, it really adds to the story as a whole because it makes it imperfect.

Milo

Milo is like the sweetest bean ever and I feel like I would just love to cocoon him and hide him away from the world. Abusive relationships can never be easy but for it to be also the first one can really affect a person.

I love the growth I see in Milo's character throughout the book. He has a lot of insecurities one of the main being his stutter and the need to depend on others.
After he is saved by Niall, he makes sure to recuperate and become as independent as he can be.

He becomes a strong person by the end of the book. He takes his own decisions but he doesn't let them overpower him.

Dotty(Niall's cat)

You would wonder what a cat is doing in the favourite character section? But that is because Dotty was another favourite of mine. Dotty had a short backstory too which pained me to no end, because of how many animals go through the same treatment just because they are unable to speak.

You can see character growth in dotty too. It is the best example of how loving animals can be but it takes time. Love cannot be taken, it is just earned.

LEAST FAVOURITE CHARACTER

Without a doubt Thomas(Milo's abusive ex)

This character is not hated by me only because of him being abusive in the earlier half of the story, but he remains that way until the end. I do think that him being the same he was really showed me the growth in Milo's character. Thomas is just the embodiment of a toxic human being. He belittles people and uses them for their fame. I like how the author did not change his character though, because that shows the truth of life. Some people never learn from their mistakes and never redeem for their hateful actions and that is just life. But I believe in karma doing its work so it was nice to see Thomas with his lifeless paintings getting a long due speech from Milo.

GENERAL REVIEW

This story is more than a love story. It is a story about self help, growing and making mistakes along the way. Certain events that take place in the book are milestones for sure. I applaud the author because of the way she infuses laughter in a serious discussion. Every possible hurdle in their relationship that could come between them is discussed in the book. Also the way the characters voice their opinions out instead of holding them up inside is appreciated. The story feels whole while reading it with a lot of snarky and witty banter. The way at first certain characters make me dislike them(like Gideon, Milo's brother) at first but as I read later I can understand their actions really amazes me because the author made me hate them and like them in such a short span of time. It is like a learning experience throughout the book.

LESSONS LEARNT FROM THIS BOOK

Self growth is something that has to happen on its own. You have to strive for it by yourself because till the time you don't believe you are worth it, no one else would think so too. But at the same time one can always take the support provided from the sidelines. Asking for help when needed is never a sign of weakness but the biggest bravery and intelligence.

Sometimes some decisions have to be taken in order for us to realise what is really important to us.

We should never do things to raise the opinion of us other people have. The only one who needs to have a high opinion of ourselves is us. Doing things to be recognised by the society is okay, but our loved ones should be prioritised. If someone loves you for who you are then you are already perfect in their eyes.

Never judge people too early.

SOME LINES I REALLY LIKED

"He’s always wonderfully warm while I’m permanently cold."—Milo

"Even  with the speech impediment and shyness he’d seemed almost dauntless, like he was a Weeble and no matter how the world knocked him over, he’d still get up with that shy smile of his."—Niall

"I  want his insecurities and his quiet strength. His warm laugh and his sometimes hesitant speech."—Niall

It amaze me how she built amazing MC's and gives them a unique and great souls but my problem with this book it's the plot and how slow and boring gets since the beggining, i loved milo and niall but while i was reading it i can't stop thinking "i hope the next one is better"

Lily Morton’s stories never fail to make me swoon!! She writes the most wonderful romances that are just so lovely. Milo was a fantastic read. It was funny, sweet and so so HOT! I adored Milo and Niall! I loved their relationship from the very start, Niall was just so right for Milo that it made my heart ache in all the lead up to them realising it!!

Milo is one of my most favourite characters. He’s smart and strong and witty, and once he comes out of his shell and builds up his confidence he is truly capable to anything he sets his mind to! I adored him and loved seeing him grow and learn and gain more confidence. Niall was brilliant too; gorgeous and outgoing and kind. He was exactly the right fit for Milo <3

It was lovely to see more Oz and Silas, so I’m just hoping in the next book we might get a little more sneak peaks at Milo and Niall. I don’t want to let them go!

This was so wonderful and I would totally recommend. Sooooo perfect!

4.5 stars!

Whew, with several of the other reviews and comments about this book, I was expecting some pretty hard things to swallow.

I want to address that issue first because I feel like a lot of people might either be put off by it or won't mind it - or will be able to get past it.

The whole...Niall used to sleep with Gideon, Milo's brother...no, it's not ideal. And yes he last sleeps with him only a month, two months before the start of present day in this book. I also wish there could have been more time before Niall started sleeping with Milo.

BUT...but the thing is, nothing happened with Gideon once Niall realized his attraction and then later his feelings for Milo. Nothing happened with Gideon in this book, and especially after Niall got his head out of his ass and noticed Milo. That is the big difference for me, and why I am personally able to get past it and let it go.

It's not like Niall was sleeping with both brothers at the same time - which would have been a huge no for me - or even interested in Gideon that way anymore once he starts having feelings for Milo. He even says right away when Gideon shows up that it's not gonna happen ever again between them.

Gideon was jealous at first, yes, and I thought acted like an asshole - and part of giving .5 stars off is Gideon's little...test? or whatever with Milo and Niall, like he was trying to see just how much they meant to each other, especially Milo so he wouldn't hurt Niall. But like...he was legitimately jealous at first and turning into a "I'm cool with it and just want what is best for you" kind of thing felt a little silly and done so there wouldn't be too much lasting drama.

But Gideon mellowed out and wasn't so annoying and I liked that he said he figured out that he cares more about Niall as his best friend and not a lover. I liked that he got to that place and that he could let Niall and Milo be to their relationship.

So some of you might still have a problem with it, and Gideon's comments here and there definitely do not help (saying shit like "it's most people's dream to fuck two brothers" or something along those lines, I'm not far off what that, was a LOT much, but Niall not caring for that bullshit went a long way getting past that bullshit from Gideon for me as well.)

But I think the fact that anything that happened with Gideon and Niall happened before Milo and Niall did anything - and before Niall even realized attraction and feelings - made it okay for me, but if even that's too much for you, I understand being weary reading this or not liking that aspect of the book. But for me I didn't mind too much in the end because of how it played out.

Saying all that, I very much enjoyed the rest of the book. The only thing that really annoyed me apart from what I talked about earlier was
SpoilerMilo compared Niall to Thomas, his abusive ex, all the time. It was completely unfair and pretty shitty, imo. I know Milo has trauma and he's scared to be in that situation again - like i get it. But he's known Niall basically his whole life, so HOW could he think this man he's known so well and has loved/had a crush on - whatever you want to call it - is capable of acting like that? It felt completely unfair and almost ridiculous of Milo to think that. I don't know, that annoyed me more than anything else in this book, honestly.

But aside from that I adored Milo and Niall together and very much enjoyed this book. I still enjoyed Oz more overall, but this book was good as well, and seeing these two finally get their heads out of their asses and together was awesome.

I love how it took just one moment of Niall really looking at Milo to realize what has been in front of his face the entire time, and seeing them make their way together and falling in love was great.

This book carried a slightly more serious tone than some of her other books have, but I enjoyed that just as much as her funnier books. Not every character has to make us crack up for the book to be great, even though Morton does great comedy.

I know this book might not be for everyone, but it worked for me as basically all Morton books have, and I can't wait for the next book she gives us - which I bet will be about Gideon - which will hopefully be another great story.

I personally recommend this, I very much enjoyed this. I hope my explaining of the Gideon situation makes it easier for others to pick this up and read as well - but if it's still too much for you, then I understand that as well.
