While Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter was a better book, The Last American Vampire was a joy to read. My only issue is how convenient major moments in history are for Henry to experience. He befriends sooo many famous people and is part of soooo many historical events.

I'm only giving this a three, because I was unable to finish it. After I realized that the book had started different than Abe Lincoln ended, I had a really hard time getting into it after that. Since I had to return it to the library (and had already renewed it twice) I just gave up just under halfway through.

I liked the historical fiction parts of this book. I disliked the sex parts of this, and could have cut all that out without losing anything.

Little overkill on trying to involve the characters into the actual history but still pretty awesome.

*I received a free copy of this book in return for my honest review.*

4.5 stars.
Seth Grahame-Smith can write. He takes actual historical moments and combines them so well with small supernatural details that almost convinces you all plots to bring down the United States are caused by evil, undemocratic vampires.
While this book can be violent, quite graphically so in some scenes, it is also fun. Imagine the last four hundred years of American history told from the point of view of a vampire who had experienced every important historical event, personally. Best of all, while the plot is fantastically imagined, it is also well researched.
For me, this book was a joy to read and I stayed up far too late in order to finish "just one more chapter."

I started out liking this. As I read further though I started to get annoyed. It seemed like the author looked up important people and events from each decade and threw the main character into each situation. I thought it started to get ridiculous after a while. Also, I don't care if you are a vampire and live through many human lifetimes...
Spoiler it is creepy to develop romantic feelings for a person you RAISED from an INFANT-yes you are creepy too Woody Allen!

If I could give this book zero stars I would. I don’t review books normally, I’d rather just blast through reading them. And maybe this was so much worse because it was an audio book but I made it to 66% before I DNF’d it. This was glorified torture porn (Jack the Ripper) and then … the incest. No f*%#ing thank you

Yet another 5 star book for Seth Grahame-Smith! In every book he's written that I've read it is very obvious he has done his homework. I would get so excited every time I met another person out of history and how he tied them into the story. This was an excellent and fun read for anyone who likes historical fiction, the supernatural, or just a great book.

I enjoyed how specific historical events were retold or explained to include vampires.

The romantic backstory had put this book for a bit. I didn't see a warning for it and I was caught off guard.

Overall, this book was decent. I enjoyed everything but the romantic elements. I thought the characters were fun, and I enjoyed several of Henry's friendships over the years. The plot was alright, a little predictable.
