The Last American Vampire, otherwise known as the biography of Henry Struges.
I loved the alternate histories, and the way Seth Grahame-Smith weaved vampire lore through and around real historical people and events. But damn did this book drag -- hence the low rating. I feel like this should have been it's own series with each book focusing on one or two subjects while weaving the larger arc of A grander to tie the books together.

This book was amazing, and I can't recommend it enough. I reviewed it on my blog at https://elysathebiblioblogger.wordpress.com/2016/07/07/the-last-american-vampire/
I usually really love this authors work but overall this story felt forced to me. I felt a lot was graphic and over the top just cause it could be instead of advancing narrative.
Saga of Henry Sturges continues in the sequel to Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter. The book is narrated in a non-fiction manner, retelling familiar pieces of American history but through the eyes of the immortal Henry. Some parts are hilarious but also touch upon well known tales around the rivalry between Tesla and Edison, the first and second world wars, the ku klux klan atrocities and the likes. It is as if, without Henry, the world would have been different. It's a fun read but do not expect more.
The book still deserves the rating that I gave it. The twists that happen didn't surprise me as much this time around, but they were still just as exciting. I really enjoyed my time with this book.
I loved this - Henry is the antithesis of all the jaded vampire tropes out there. He has humanity and humility, and is nevertheless capable of great violence. His love for Abe Lincoln is overwhelming and spans 150 years. The odd retelling of significant moments in history with added vampiric perspective never gets old. The writing is always good and sometimes great, and that will always do it for me. Highly recommended.
Love love love this book the only reason I gave it a 4.5 is the way it dealt with Abraham Lincoln story seems rush and not deserving of that ending .... oh but all those historical people just love it .....

This review is going to be brief because I hate giving things away to books that have not gone out yet to the masses. Just know if you like the first book you will like this one. A few rough spots but I believe those will be smoothed out before the mass printing.
