Excellent follow up. I envy his style of writing.
I give it 2 ½ stars. The idea had potential but the execution was a mess. There were too many non relevant back stories/relationships that just severed to remind you that the main character was 500+ years old (Yeah, got that in the 1st chapter) & had met a lot of historical figures in his long life. I wanted so badly to like this book; I found Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter rather enjoyable but this fell flat and just kept falling. I was white-knuckling it by the 9th chapter. I never understood the story or reason behind the main character's "nemesis" or why the relationship between heroine & "bad guy" went sour. The book ended with a possibility of a 3rd novel in the future. If Seth does write another installment (which I understand he is contractually obligated to write one more novel), I hope it's better than this one & picks up the story of the Union since it was so important & prominent in the beginning but was hardly mentioned at all by the end of the book.
This book is about a vampire named Henry and his history. It follows how he was made into a vampire to more recent events in history. It also covers some of his good friend Abraham Lincolns adventures as well.
I didn’t read the first book in this series but I don’t think you really needed too as this one could be read like a standalone.
Lots of history! It was really cool how many historical events were tied into the storyline. I loved following Henry’s life and you met so many cool people along the way. The dialogue was amazing as well, it actually kind of sounded like how I imagined people would sound then.

I really, really enjoyed this book. I enjoyed Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter a great deal, but I feel like this follow up was even more enjoyable, for what I was looking for, at least. Taking a supporting character from a book and using them as the protagonist of the sequel does not always work, but Henry Sturges is a very likable character to follow along with. He also allows for a great adventure, as the reader is taken on a trip throughout American history, from the foundation and mystery of the Roanoke Colony to the Russian Revolution. One of my favorite aspects of this book is the amount of historical characters that you meet along the way, from Bram Stoker, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, Mark Twain, Tesla, and presidents such as Teddy Roosevelt and JFK. I would highly recommend this book if you enjoyed Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter.
slow in parts but good overall. the anticipation of what the characters are about to do 'knowing' history as I do (or thought I did) was part of the fun/suspense throughout.
Henry Sturges has been a vampire for centuries. He has experienced so much of America. He was in Roanoke with the first settlers and watched America bloom in its youth. As the years passed, he traveled the world and was in England with Jack the Ripper, in America to watch the electric era with Tesla and Edison, went to Russia during the October Revolution and experienced the First and Second World Wars. No mortal human has experienced all of these events except in books.
The Last American Vampire is an alternate history of America viewed through the eyes of a vampire. Readers who enjoyed Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter will have fun discovering which famous people were really vampires as well as those who passed up the chance to be immortal. This is not a direct sequel to Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter and readers who have not touched that novel will not have any issues with this book. This is not an action packed adventure tale, so readers should be advised that it can read more like a narrative history book than fiction. Although this is an enjoyable book, it is geared toward those who like alternate histories and not necessarily those who like vampire books.

I didn't like it quite as much as the first novel, but it is still a fun and campy story. The story is stupid, but in all the right ways. There are so many references to historical figures that are just fun. The sequel lacks some of the punchiness that "Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter" had, the style of the other book still makes me impressed, but this one is a fun follow up to enjoy.
This will be a short review. It was interesting to follow Henry's journey through 450 years and the imagine if history actually happened like this. Who's to say it didn't happen like this? Overall this was enjoyable, but I did not like it as much Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter.
Henry is the Forrest Gump of Vampires. If there is an important bit of American history going on, Henry will find himself there.
In the acknowledgements, the author says his family says he does things too fast... I agree with their assessment, but in the context of the book.... it's a whirlwind and I think I got whiplash.
It is enjoyable, and I love the idea of a kick-ass Abe Lincoln.

A fun sequel to a book I read ages ago. I kept forgetting this was even around! If you liked ALVH then you’ll love this. I hope Seth writes another book with Henry! There’s so much to write about in the last 10 years!
