Drama psicológico y horror se mezcla en esta icónica novela sobre el trastorno de doble personalidad por antonomasia. Se lee muy rápido, con capitulos breves y sin descripciones ni explicaciones eternas, que para mí que vengo de leer Crímen y Castigo y De la Tierra a la Luna, me pareció refrescante.

When our baser urges are allowed to run free, they end up dominating. Disturbing, even if the 'science' is a bit amusing.

The trick of reading a book where the twist is so well-known is to ignore that and try to read it to pick up on other details.
Utterson being the focal character is something I never knew before, and of course the details of Hyde being a disfigured, diminutive caveman is a weird one to hold onto since usually people think "hulking brute" with a man so marinated in his evil.

And despite the common paradigm that this is one of the most common examples of the dissociative identity disorder, it's interesting that Jekyll describes it more like a freeing of his inhibitions with the bodily changes giving him a weird anonymity, because why else would he want to keep changing if he couldn't benefit from it himself? So in that respect, it's definitely more an allegory to substance abuse where you get to cut loose from your respectable public persona; which is funny since that's a lot less frowned upon in this modern day. We all need something to take the edge off, but the key is making sure it don't overtake your life completely.
