A classic and well written short story overall… but I just did not super enjoy reading it:
(1) The overly wordy writing style was not my jam (which is saying something given that I love A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens and Dracula by Bram Stoker).
(2) I also went into this book with only a superficial pop-culture level of knowledge of the story and always thought Jekyll was supposed to be inherently good / that Jekyll was trying to do something good with his serum that just went wrong due to some crazy accident (like Bruce Banner becoming the Hulk due to a failed Captain America serum)…but Jekyll is actually just a creepy rich asshole from the very beginning who just wanted to use the Hyde serum to “be free” to act out all his creepy asshole desires without damaging his rich man reputation… which is just very hard to read given current events in the US right now. And so I straight up was rooting against Jekyll the whole time, because I hated his guts even more as Jekyll than as Hyde. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

A good classic, with decent prose, about a universal struggle depicted in an original way so, really, what more could you... could you ask... for... arh... ugh... euuaaARH IT WASN'T EVEN THAT GOOD WHY IS EVERYONE SO OBSESSED WITH THIS BOOK UGH GOOD THING IT WAS SHORT AT LEAST!!
...
So sorry about that. I don't know what came over me.
