Ok this right here has been my favorite book in the series so far! The ‘morally gray’ main man is written CORRECT. The back and forth of hate and interest keeps things interesting. The mystery of Allemar and what his plan is. The fact that we get to see Rosalie and Xander and their baby!!! The fact that the kingdom is not perfect. The redemption arc(s). *chefs kiss*

All in all, I appreciated the intricate relationship depicted between Aspen and Maeve. Although it could have been portrayed slightly problematic with the power dynamic between them, I think the romantic aspect of their relationship was written perfectly. And I like that Maeve stayed true to her character and said fuck learning blood magic, even if that meant we didn’t get to learn too much about the actual magical system and lore.

Can I say one thing though… the ending. CAN WE PLEASE HAVE A DIFFERENT STYLE ENDING. Again with the running away and hiding. Can we please just have an ending where they stay in the aftermath LOL.

I’m excited to see where exactly the story goes now that Allemar seems to be dealt with. Hopefully we learn more about Mother Eville’s plans for revenge.

So good

I love this author. I have read most of her books. She builds amazing worlds and characters. I haven't found one that I didn't enjoy. The 6th book in this series came out this week. I had not been able to finish this book. The first few chapters had several triggering moments for me. If I hadn't read it on a kindle, it would have gone in the freezer. I really wanted to read it, though because I had heard so much good about it. So, I gathered a comfy blanket and sat close to my husband. I got through the rough parts (for me) and really enjoyed it. Well done. I have already started book 6.

good read

I truly enjoyed this one on this series. Lots of inner turmoil and self reflection. I was invested in the main characters and their stories.

I always enjoy a new fairytale twist. That being said, this series pushes heteronormativity heavily. I would enjoy the books more if there were more focus on ace, queer, familial, and friend relationships, as well as adventure emphasis.

The plot to each book is highly predictable; daughter ends up in the kingdom of her birth , the male love interest in introduced fairly obviously and early on and is framed as a villian/evil/antagonist, misunderstandings that are ridiculously stupid and easily fixed by SPEAKING to each other [obviously, this never happens], daughter running away/using her magic and causing mayhem unintentionally and is thus shunned or imprisoned, the big bad shows their face, the story ‘ends’ with the daughter running away ’for good’ only to have an epilogue where the love interest appears [or is revealed to have never died] they talk and daughter falls into his arms happily ever after… It’s boring.

I will finish off this series because I have access to all the books and I hate leaving things without knowing where it’s al going to end [good or bad].

This book in particular is slightly better plot wise until the end that is rushed and the ‘big bad’ is killed too easily and simply over a few paragraphs….. That sucked. I wish the daughter’s ending didn’t revolve around a penis kissing her and making all her problems go away. Sadly, this is what the majority of readers want [don’t get me wrong, I enjoy it sometimes but not all times].

To each their own.
