I didn’t hate this book by any means, but I found myself not loving it. I didn’t really like any of the characters or how insta-lovey it was?? and the murder mystery was sub-par for me (I guessed who it was as soon as they were introduced 😅). It was a quick spicy read that’s definitely perfect for the summer, but just wasn’t my vibe.
I loved it happened one summer & hook, line, and sinker but unfortunately this specific Tessa Bailey book just wasn’t for me.

Taylor, a second grade teacher on vacation in Cape Cod with her brother, gets more than she bargained for when they find a body in their rental home—and when a grumpy bounty hunter arrives to investigate the murder.
“Admit this is romantic.” “No,” I say, breathily. “It’s not.”
Unpopular opinion alert: this one was NOT IT for me. I know there must be something to love about it because a lot of people I respect a lot really love it…but unfortunately I did not find whatever they found in the pages of this one.
Even though I expected the murder mystery to be relegated to a bit of a side plot, it was ultimately almost entirely irrelevant, to the point that I’m not even sure why it needed to be part of the plot. Still, I would have been okay with that if the romance made up for it, but I found the dynamic between Myles and Taylor to be super creepy and possessive, and I just could not get into their relationship.
Also, I recognize what a weird soapbox this is for me to choose, but because I just can’t get past it: there are no pandas in Connecticut. Entirely possible there are weirdos in panda suits though. (IYKYK)
I’m going to end this here, but if you read and loved this one, know that I cannot relate but I’m genuinely happy for you—please don’t come for me.

The main characters were both kind of annoying and a little dumb/frustrating. I like it when mmc are somewhat protective and possessive, but sometimes it went too far. They blame it on his PTSD that they mention once and then just kind of move on, not even mentioning anything in the epilogue about how he dealt with it. We also didn’t really get much about them as people or their backgrounds. Like with his divorce, he never talked about why he got divorced with her or said anything about his ex-wife. It was just kind of thrown in to show how bad he got obsessed with the Boston kidnapping case. It seemed like the actually story and character buildup was super rushed together and it focused a lot more on smut scenes, which kind of ruined it. There wasn’t much swooning or sweet things being said. It was kind of insta-lust to love right away when they barely know each other.
Also, what was going on with Jude and Dante? We never even found out what happened when Dante came to talk to Jude, it felt so incomplete. It’s like the author started to write a cute side story and then totally forgot about it.
Idk. It was enjoyable enough for a quick read. The mystery was pretty easy to solve.
