The progress I made in the book was painstaking. I didn't like the 2nd person perspective - found it confusing and distracting.

I really struggled with this book. The writing was good, but the storyline was difficult. There was so much sorrow and grief it was just too much. There were sprinkles of happy memories throughout, but it wasn’t enough. I felt like I was reading a journal entry written to Kathy the entire time, but instead of “dear diary…” there was just a lot of “remember that time(s)”. It got redundant about halfway through.

This is a slow and long book that I really didn't understand the purpose or goal of the story. It straddled multiple genres between mystery, romance and coming of age that didn't feel like it was done well. I also listened to the audiobook so that is maybe why I didn't connect with it as much as I was expecting.

Boring.
I’m not sure why I’d want to keep reading when these girls could not be more vanilla. Maybe something happens, but I’m not waiting 11 more hours to find out

I had high hopes for this after reading The Wedding People. I gave it two stars instead of one because the writing was decent enough to keep me wanting to know what was going to happen but each time nothing happened. Fool me once…🤡
While on their way to school, Kathy, Sally and Kathy’s boyfriend Billy, end up in a car accident due to swerving while trying to avoid a deer. Kathy, Sally’s older sister, loses her life and Billy has so many injuries that the entire trajectory of his life changes. Sally walks away without a scratch on her. The entire book is about how Kathy’s family tries to recover while Sally falls in love with Billy.
You learn all of these details from Sally when she becomes an adult and goes to therapy. All of this sounds like a good book…wellllll it isn’t. Definitely room for potential that just fell flat. 😴

Tough. Ready like YA. Sister dies in car accident while boyfriend drives and family craters. Very real. Very hard.
