It wasn’t bad. I liked the beginning more than near the end where it started to drag (by end I really mean like chapter 15 or something). Grace was an interesting character and it was refreshing to have a character in this series that already has an idea of how the supernatural world works (it was kinda weird to read a romance with FMC that shares my name though lol).

I really wish we could’ve gotten more about why Grace’s mom disappeared after coming to the demon realm but that didn’t come into play til near the end so that was kind of a let down. And if I’m being honest, I didn’t really feel much chemistry between Bram and Grace (but please take that with a grain of salt as I’m asexual and that tends to skew how I view attraction). I did like that Grace was the dominant one in the relationship (idk much about dom/sub relationships or BDSM and don’t have too much experience with the romance genre to know for sure but it seems to me that a lot of romances—read ‘straight romances’— have men be the dominant one so kudos to that—bare minimum, I’m aware😅). And also having a discussion on how no one should have kids to keep people together or just to have one person be happy.

I know I critiqued Grace not getting the info on her mom til later—I still stand by that—but I was shocked when Bram revealed she was the woman that killed his whole family. In hindsight, it makes sense given the fact we kept bringing up the event. It kind of felt a little rushed though since the reveal didn’t occur til chapter 23😅

Anyway, I'm excited to read The Demon’s Bargain (I’ve been reading this series out of order) as Ramanu/Lenora has been teased in several books and it’s the last book I need to read.

Great addition to the Deal With A Demon series. I LOVE Bram and Grace, just wish we got more of them. No epilogue so who knows what happens! This was a quick and easy read, I would say lighthearted like the others in their series, but maybe not with the subject matter. All in all, a hot and spicy good time. Took points off because of some grammar mistakes.

The Gargoyle's Captive is the third book in the "A Deal With a Demon" series by Katee Robert. I liked this a little better than the second book, The Kraken's Sacrifice, but I didn't like this as much as the first book, The Dragon's Bride.

There's too much trauma and drama in this erotica for me.
At one point the main female love interest, Grace, sets the Gargoyle on fire, and then she yells at him saying that he shouldn't pull such dangerous stunts. It was bizarre. Then there's the whole bit where we all find out that Grace's mother was the one that killed the Gargoyle's family that he's still mourning. Just too much drama and not enough sex.

The spice was okay, I'm giving this 3 chilies out out 5 chilies 🌶️🌶️🌶️ worth of spice.

Overall, this was okay. It wasn't great and it's not something I'd read again, but it was alright. I'm giving it three stars.

I really loved the first books of this series and was looking forward to reading this one, and it did not disappoint - read in one go. This is a really enjoyable, spicy monster romance, in the usual great to read style of Katee Robert. The story mirrors the others: Grace makes a deal with Azazel, she is picked by the leader of one of the demon territories, there is some initial problems and then they make up.

The story here has a little bit of a darker turn, though it was relatively obvious that it was coming.

Definitely recommended if you like Katee Robert, spicy romance, monster romance, or just a fun time reading.

This could’ve potentially been a five star read if I wasn’t so deeply uncomfortable over Bram’s loincloth. And if there was more Ramanu. Still a fun time though.

Current ranking of the series:
  1. The Demon’s Bargain (Team Ramanu forever)
  2. The Kraken’s Sacrifice/The Gargoyle’s Captive (Kraken had better characters but Gargoyle had better smut)
  3. The Dragon’s Bride (I’ve kinda forgotten about it ngl)

Representation:
  • nonbinary side character that uses they/them

Honestly this is the best of this series since The Dragon’s Bride. I liked the characters’ development, though the final chapter felt very abrupt and I would have liked an epilogue. Probably the best sex scenes of the series though.
