This just didn't work for me at all. Firstly, the town being run like some medieval place where the shithole "ruler" could do what he wanted was lol ... just don't set it in modern real world then, okay? Seriously, we're told that it is in the town rules that the Mayor can have anyone arrested that he wants. Lolwut?

I didn't like either of the leads. Jordan was a whiny dumbass who let everyone treat her like complete garbage. The fact that she's even torn about staying in this hellhole town is unbelievable. The "Mayor" tried to rape her. They harass and arrest her for no reason, and they are trying to get her house torn down for ... literally no reason other than I guess that it is hers. And this is apparently a real possibility, like they could really do this. And she beats up on herself because she used her magic to zap a dude that was trying to rape her after he'd gotten her pants around her ankles. Yes, that's who this character is. Really.

Meanwhile, Matt is the self-absorbed dickhead who can't imagine why she ran away from this town at 18 ... hahahahahahahahahaha. Look, even if he didn't know about the attempted rape, we've gotten to see the harassment and abuse in full color here. You don't know why she left? You self-absorbed dickhead. He's also absolutely positive that she cursed him or something with her magic 11 years ago, which is why he turns into a ghost for 5 days a month. He has no reason to think that, other than the fact that she's a witch. But he is utterly, absolutely, unshakably positive that she was responsible. He's a self-absorbed prejudiced dickhead. And when shit happens - like, kids throw a rock though the window she's standing in front of and she gets all cut up from the glass - his first conclusion is "did you do that with your magic?" He is as bad as everyone else in this town, blaming her for everything - she must have done it, you guys, she's the witch! OooOoOoooooOoh!

Fuck this whole town, seriously.

And then after treating her badly the whole time, and backing the Mayor when he had her arrested for no reason, and nearly getting her killed... this town randomly turns on a dime and decides to make her Mayor because "they want her to know they support her". Again, lolwut? That was the most bullshit fake ending in the history of chicklit. How about they just decide to stop being mean to her and throwing rocks at her? I'd find that reasonably believable. Making her Mayor? Just no. No.

This was some dumb shit, y'all.

I received a review copy.

Jordan has returned home only to do what is necessary to sell her grandmother's house and then leave forever. She has very few good memories about Holiday, Montana and most of those involve Matt and his brothers. I enjoyed seeing the sparks that still remain between Jordan and Matt. They were high school sweethearts and though it ended abruptly, the feelings hadn't died on either of their parts. But as Matt rekindles his friendship with Jordan he is keeping a huge secret. And once Jordan learns his secret will she help him or run? This is a nice read by Ms. Ryan. Jordan and Matt have a friendship that has survived as if they never left which I enjoyed. I loved the interaction between him and his brothers as well. The are strong men who support and love each other and those they befriend. Ms. Ryan threw in a few unexpected twists which I thoroughly enjoy and I can't wait to see if the brothers follow in Matt's footsteps and find their happily ever after.

Charmed Spirits by Carrie Ann Ryan
Jordan Cross thought she had left the town of Holiday, Montana, in the dust many moons ago, never to return. Until the death of her grandmother*, brings her back to a town that looks down at her and talks behind her back because she is a witch. Jordan also has to face the man she walked out on all those years ago. I really liked Jordan. She is a strong and independent woman who is faced with all the fears of her past to be able to go on with the future. Jordan had to learn to trust herself to be able to be herself and come to find her home again. I love those kind of stories. I know what it like to have some of those feeling, so it was nice to relate with her in that
Matt Cooper, youngest of the Cooper brothers, is super-hot with a heart of gold and one of those good naughty streaks that makes your heart flutter! HIs heart almost stops into its tracks when he runs into Jordan after 11 years! Matt has never stopped loving Jordan since the day she left, and one look at her brings it all back. He tries to fight the feeling knowing that she is not staying, but he can’t stop loving her. Matt keeps a secret that rocks the foundation of how he really is. He has to find the “cure” in order to have the life he wants.
I really enjoyed Charmed Spirit. It was a sweet love story with a bit of paranormal and a spicy kick. I am not a small town person but I like the hominess feeling of the story, and the fact that are 4 more Cooper brothers to read about. I have not read a book in a while that made me laugh, yell, smile and want to cry all it the same sitting in a long time. I could feel the emotions coming off the pages. A winner for me!
I met Carrie Ann Ryan when I purchased this book from her at the Frederick Book festival. I walked up to her table and we chatted about her books for a few. The passion she had coming off of her as she talked about her books was amazing. She never stopped smiling and was so nice!!! She wrote on a topic I like so I got a few books and I must say I was not disappointed. The passion and excitement that she showed me when she talked about her books is in her written word as well. I love a book that makes me feel and Carrie Ann Ryan did that!!

A wonderful start to another amazing series by Carrie Ann Ryan. Each book will revolve around a different holiday. This one was about Halloween. Can't wait to read the rest!!

Magic happens. Jordan has been away from Holiday, Montana the town she grew up in. She left behind small minds and the boy she loved. She is a witch and all she ever wanted to be was normal. She was never going to be normal there. Matt was the boy she left behind. The youngest of five brothers Matt is a carpenter and owner of the local hardware store. He has never forgotten Jordan as he believes she is responsible for his becoming a ghost for five nights of the month. Charmed Spirits is a fun tale that brings Matt and Jordan back together.
