Има причина Шерлок да е най-популярният детектив.
Поредица от случаи, в които Шерлок доказва майсторството си над дедукцията. Книгата носи типичната английска атмосфера и мистерия.

Very interesting cases, but I didn't completely like the way they were written. Holmes would often leave Watson at home which therefore meant that Watson didn't really know what was happening, which meant that often the whole case was told as stories by other characters as opposed to Watson seeing what happened for himself. That being said, I enjoyed the cases, despite being completely different from the BBC's Sherlock.

I really enjoyed this. I’ve seen the BBC Sherlock and it was great to see some of the inspiration for those shows! I’m not a super huge fan of the pacing, just because it feels like we spend so much time puzzling over the case and then Holmes explains it in like 2 pages. Still, that I didn’t have a big enough issue with that to make me stop enjoying the book!

I read this to see if the movies and television show mirror the writing at all. I think both capture Sherlock equally well but in different ways. The television show seems to hold true to the books the best. The stories are repetitive and sometimes seem to be a little too similar, but that could come from having to "solve" cases within 30 pages. Almost like trying to solve cases within the time frame of a 40 min tv episode (one of the reasons I particularly like the television series is that each episode is over an hour and a half). So naturally they tend to be episodic rather than stories that draw you in by the depth of characters. Their only purpose is to show how much more observant Sherlock is than every one else, not get you interested in the characters of the story.

"A Scandal in Bohemia" saved this one for me.

Sherlock Holmes continues to hit for me. I loved the format of the short story collection this time. The others have been more novella length which has led to some drawn out backstories that I felt dragged a little, but these stories were clean, and concise, and pretty well varied. The mysteries were distinct, and there was a good balance of high and low stakes. I could have done with a few more zingers at the expense of some bumbling police inspectors just for fun, but overall, this is my favorite Holmes installment to date!
