Despite enjoying this book I actually put it down in favour of another book twice! In the first instance, I had read about half of the stories and enjoyed them immensly. However, I found that reading them in such quick succession was limiting my chance to savour each one. So I put the book down and read Persuasion over about 9 days, then happily returned to Holmes. I read all but the last story, then needed to bring a book on the Milford Track. I wasn't going to carry more than one, so it didn't make sense to bring one I was just about to finish. So I put it down again for 4 days in favour of The Turn Of The Screw.

Eventually I finished the book! The last story was worth waiting for too, being quite intriguing and spooky, as many of them were. I have read Holmes before (The Bound of the Haskervilles) which I remember enjoying, but not as much as this. Each tale was suspenseful, clever, fun and intriguing. I won't mention each story by name (I'm quite tired), but having looked through them again I was happily able to recall each one by it's name. I will enthusiastically look out for Holmes again.

I got this one as the Brisbane Bookfest.

Teos koostuu 12 itsenäisestä novellista. Novellit olivat viihdyttäviä, mutta mielestäni osa oli selkeästi parempia kuin toiset. Oikeammin arvio ehkä olisikin 2,5/5. Voi olla, että oli liian kovat odotukset tälle, ja siksi vähän petyin. Viktoriaaninen Lontoo ja dekkarityylin tarinat kuitenkin toimivat kevyenä viihteenä.
