I really liked this book's philosophical and cultural discussion on otherworldly aliens as it would affect the 21st century society. Indeed a lot of the focus is on how humanity reacts to these aliens and what is the best way they see fit to approach the first contact situation. I found the reactions of people and the government to be quite realistic, at least as the world currently stands right now. My only issue was that the lead character's opinions and reactions seemed to change wildly but then again she does acknowledge this behaviour herself; I mean, I've never had first contact with aliens so who am I to say my reactions would be consistent in a novel situation like that?

I think the author isn’t a “mature writer” yet. What I mean by that is the fact that you can tell he has a passion for writing, imagery, description, and spelling things out for his audience.

The ideas he wants is really interesting but it’s just not at the right level. As many artists, he will continue to grow and expand his abilities and become a fantastic writer. It’s about progress and he is making some.

Starts off in military focus in Africa, present day, really embedding itself down there with a situation going poorly and the members of the military outfit guarding the doctor with them. More characterisation and scenario than I was expecting ... and then first contact happens. And I'm a sucker for first contact, and this was done really well; quite interesting. Quite focused.

First contact scenario. Book 3 in the series, although they’re all stand alone books. Another good read, I enjoyed this one as well.

A Realistic Reaction

If you liked Ender's Game, then this book is for you. The interaction between the aliens, scientists, military, politicians, and so on are really interesting. The only fault was that it took a little while to build the intrigue.

Actually 3.75. It was entertaining but you really have to suspend A LOT of beliefs. Then again…maybe my reluctance to do so is my own fault. Isn’t most reading just asking us to take a step out of reality?
