This was much better than the 1st one. There's only one thing I gotta complain and that is that the author describes everything and that is completely unnecessary. Specially because all these descriptions do not move the story forward.
I love their development and how much we've gotten to know the characters. We finally learned more of their past history and Neil's real name. It made me cry twice. That end, had me bawling.

Look up Trigger Warnings if you wanna read it.

Listen it's not exactly quality, right? But something about this book series just pulls you in and doesn't let go. It's super fucked up. But somehow even on a reread still enjoyable.

2024 reread: The Raven King is one of those books that will leave you emotionally devastated and wrung out, but craving more. It’s one gut punch after another and the roller coaster of emotions this book will put you through is insane. I loved that Neil decided to stay every time he thought about running and trying to make things better for his family teammates. Neil is a goddamned menace to anyone who isn’t his friend or teammate and I love him for it. This is still a solid five stars!

Original 2020 review: Holy shit. This book...this book was absolutely devastating. I loved every minute of this book, even if it did leave my emotions in a burning pile of wreckage. Honestly? I don’t even have the words to describe this book, but I’ll try.

I think the thing I liked the most about The Raven King was that the team actually started to mesh together into a cohesive unit. They started to function like a real family, dirty secrets and all. I also loved seeing all the little quirks that started to pop up and how Neil sees the world. Neil is one of the most fascinating characters, he’s got all of these masks that he uses to protect himself and others. But throughout this book you can see some of them start to slip as he starts thinking of his team as family.

This was such a fantastic read. And it’s all because this book is so self indulgent and driven by these truly fucked up, yet addictive characters and an angsty storyline. I’m giving this a solid five stars.
