Soulful. A bit clunky in places and I'm still not sure the main character is as likeable as others seem to think. Though, given the current climate, I can see why this book has garnered the acclaim it has.

Wow! This book was a treasure to read. At its heart it’s a narrative of anti-colonial revolutionaries in Palestine in the lead-up to, and during, the second and third intifadas. I loved that it’s a feminist story, and that it challenges a lot of assumptions in the mainstream North American understanding of history. The deeply felt love story was secondary to the history, and I loved it just as much. Also, the love story really focused on other deep forms of intimacy, moreso than sexual desire, which is rare and I appreciated it. I would be surprised if this isn’t among my best books for this year.
