I'll be thinking about this book forever. This book gave me a feeling I cannot describe and a new outlook on life. Holy hell what a ride

This started out feeling magical to me. I was completely drawn in by the opening chapters, where Piranesi carefully explores and documents the House with its endless halls, mysterious statues, and the rhythm of the tides, it was so new and interesting to me. The journal-like entries added to the intimacy of the story and I felt as though I was there right alongside him. I would have been content if the whole book had simply been Piranesi wandering, recording, and marveling at the beauty and strangeness of his surroundings.

As the story developed, though, my feelings changed. The novel began to move away from that meditative exploration and into something that felt much more like a sci-fi mixed with a thriller, if that makes sense? I could see what Susanna Clarke was trying to do, but I found the shift unfitting. To me, it broke the earlier spell of mystery.

By the end, I wasn’t entirely sure what the central point of the book was meant to be. Themes of identity, memory, and belonging are present, but for me they didn’t land with the same resonance as the atmosphere of the opening. I left the book feeling let down and confused. Nonetheless Clarke's writing was beautiful and well done.

I quite liked the beginning of Piranesi. The House is a great setting with the descriptions of the statues and tides being intriguing. Our main character is lovable with his optimism and naivety. The mysteries did not have obvious solutions I could guess with ease.
However, the further the story progressed the less I enjoyed it with an ending that did not inspire me much.
The build up to 16 had me interested but her identity left me disappointed. The Other was less than I had hoped and his ending was rather flat. There was nothing too audacious about the ending that I was hoping for. Overall a decent novel.
