a fellow lover of tchotchkes

I’ve been waiting patiently for this book to show up at my library after loving THIS TIME NEXT YEAR and JUST HAVEN’T MET YOU YET did not disappoint. The book follows Laura Le Quesne, an almost thirty-year-old writer from London who interviews couples about how they met. Because of her job and the epic love stories she’s heard about her own grandparents and parents, Laura is a romantic, one with a checklist of all the things she’s looking for in her perfect man. And when an assignment sends her to Jersey, the place where her parents fell in love after her mother serendipitously found half a coin belonging to Laura’s great-grandmother, she finds herself in the position to possibly fall in love with a man who checks off all the boxes on her perfect partner checklist.

The writing is absolutely beautiful (I could picture so many of the locations in Jersey, but especially the picture of Ted with jewelry decorating his beard!) and the characters were so complex and likeable. I can’t wait to read more from Sophie Cousens.

Entertaining. Would make a decent romcom movie.
