Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I was so excited to read the book because I loved Sophie Cousens's previous book, so I'm really surprised to find myself giving this book just one star but I just couldn't care for Laura at all, she acted like a teenager, not like the almost 30-year-old she is. I mostly keep reading the book about the mystery of her parents and the resolution of it was so anti-climatic that I decided I should probably not read any of Cousens' next novels in her future. I know a lot of people will enjoy this book, but sadly I'm definitely not one of them.

This was overall enjoyable. Laura was a well rounded character, with believable flaws and a rose tinted idea of romance.

SPOILERS COMING UP

Many people are labeling this as a love triangle but to me the triangle wasn't  Ted-Laura- Jasper, but instead Laura-Ted----> and their delusions of love coming in between them. I am going to be honest, when Ted was first introduced, I did not think this dude was going to be a romantic lead, and I wholeheartedly  believe the author did that on purpose, kind of like a "look what happens when you are not looking for romance" because Laura was actively looking for a meet-cute everywhere she went, from the store, to the airport and the plane, the only time she was not looking for a meet cute was when she entered Ted's cab.

I am glad Jasper was not her HEA because honestly, this character was giving me the ick and I cannot explain why. His family was weird, I thought his mother "hooking up" with her best friend's husband was yucky, even if the best friend had dementia and could not longer remember her husband or best friend, and in the party THEY WERE HOLDING HANDS IN FRONT OF HER????
and WE JUST GLIDED THROUGH THIS WHOLE CONFLICT? as readers, we were expected to be like "oh she has dementia, so its okay for her husband and best friend to fool around because she doesn't remember them"    EXCUSE ME?

Ted's wife making an appearance felt slightly irrelevant to me, and she did not have to bring her mean girl energy to Laura when she was the one that abandoned Ted 2 years ago.  I guess this minor conflict with the ex-wife was to show Ted that Laura is not fickle and that she will not disappear on him like his ex did.  The message of the novel was good, the concept that we often hold on to idealized versions of romance and put too much pressure on objects to express that romance.

This is the second book I have read by this author and I am looking forward to more

delightful romcom! the deus ex machina and some overly wacky moments knocked it down a bit for me but i had a lovely time, especially with the various family members. also adored ted!

A very cute and easy little rom-com, indeed!
The characters are extremely likable and reminded me a lot of my friends :)
I also enjoyed the scenery - Jersey sounds like a delightful little island!
There were some surprisingly touching themes that deal with loss and how we sometimes hold onto things that simply are not meant for us.
