A beautiful window into how children experience political unrest and cultural upheaval. As someone who spent her childhood amidst The Troubles in Northern Ireland, I identified deeply with the confusion and anxiety incongruity Marjane experienced from her knee-high vantage.

I love Satrapi's sense of humour and her stories are filled with dramatic ironies. I can't imagine what it's like to have lived through a modern war. I was telling my sis that reading stories like this makes me gain a better perspective of myself and my life. You know what, my life isn't all that bad 😅

Vulnerable. Heart breaking. Real. It feels like it invites the reader in to what should be a lovely, fun childhood that has been taken away by war, political decisions, and shines a light on how the globe affected an area that was running fine by itself before others stepped in.

Really what kickstarted my fascination and love of graphic memoirs. I read it on repeat to the point that I had pages memorized.
Book #1 is much stronger than Book #2, but both are equally important in sharing the author’s life story. #2 is much slower than #1 pace-wise, and feels much less eventful.
