Beautifully drawn, intellectual and comedic despite taking place in turmoil and conflict.

Wow. What a warm, richly textured novel of having your entire childhood coincide with the points of inflection of your own homeland. Marjane Satrapi vividly captures a story both gripping and devastating, but she manages to find and draw out the humor and joy amidst bleakness and violent upheaval. My heart could break and I could laugh in the same page; her storytelling is really that good!!
