Incredibly frustrating writing style that didn't agree with me, almost written in a journalistic tone which put me off.

2.5/5

He gripped me from the first page with his captivating narrative and powerful exploration of guilt and tragedy in a small community. Through her evocative prose, she weaves a story of honor, revenge and destiny, showing the complexities of life in a vibrant and tense Latin American setting. Although the inevitability of the tragic outcome is foreshadowed from the beginning, the author's ability to create a suspenseful and emotional atmosphere left me pondering long after reading the last page.

I’d give it a 3.75/5. It wasn’t horrible but I just zoned out some of the time. The way Marquez writes female characters is beautiful and I liked the fact that Angela never enclosed the details of her encounter with Santiago, thus making it more ominous and scandalous. I love the fact that nobody casted Angela aside or hated on her, she was able to live her happily ever after despite the scandal. This book made me want to know more about the characters, but it didn’t shock me, amaze me or change me like my other books, thus it doesn’t get a 4 or a 5. As much as I love stretching myself, I need a break from classics. But, the way Marquez writes, I know I’m coming back for more.

i am so confused.

An entire town is complicit in the murder of a wealthy young man out of fear, disbelief, arrogance, love, and vengeance. What a fantastic tale
mysterious sad

one of the stranger books i’ve ever read. a question amongst several remain, why did santiago nasar walk his last steps into the back door of his home? where was he trying to go?
