Loved this book so much! My only criticism would be that it is 99% white-European/American centric.
informative inspiring fast-paced

For some of them I would have liked more context. Also, when someone can work for no pay for years and still have basics needs met is wild and sounds impossible in this current era.

Disclaimer: I received a free copy of this book from Blogging for Books.

When I started reading this book I had the same problem with it as other reviewers, the lack of information on each scientist. After all, there's really only 4-5 pages for each woman featured. But as I continued reading, I realized I wasn't considering the audience. I had assumed it was me (a late-20s woman) when I realized it's for girls in middle and high school. It's for girls who don't know how many women are in fields they may be interested in. When I realized that, I was able to enjoy the book much more.

Pick it up and give it a read, but think of it more of a jumping off point. You can learn a little about female scientists, and then go get longer books for the women you find most interesting.

This book is what it says it is; personally I like a bit more depth in the actual science. But Rachel Swaby provided great resources and notes in the appendix. I've flagged couple of ladies that I'm planning on following up on. A good and short introduction to 52 women who changed the world.

Swaby displays wit and humor as she presents some of the most impressive female accomplishments of the last two centuries o snack-sized segments. A fantastic primer for any woman in the STEM fields to find inspiration or a motivational boost.
hopeful informative medium-paced

A short look into the super interesting lives of some amazing scientists, I will probably not walk away with the ability to recall many of their names, but still enjoyed reading about their achievements.

This book is about 52 women who did have an impact on our lives, and what saddened me is that I didn't know the majority of them..
Few pages for mini biographies, the idea is awesome, some readers said the author should have narrowed the number to 10 or less and spoke more of these ten, but no, I love the fact that 52 women were mentionned, you get to know a little about them, their fights, struggles and passion, this will tease your curiosity to find out more, leading you to more books and a whole new load of information and inspiration :)

I was disappointed by this book. It pitches itself as a look into the science performed by women who changed their fields but instead seemed like a brief overview of their lives. Despite the fact that the author calls society out on how they focus on female scientists' domestic/personal lives over their scientific/professional achievements, I felt that this book was guilty of something similar: focusing too much on their personalities and struggles instead of their science. I am already aware of the unequal treatment of women in science and instead longed to understand the contributions these women made and to have their legacy cemented. The concept of this book had so much potential but fell short.
