The Black Stallion by Walter Farley
This is my 3rd or 4th time reading this. One big thing in common with my dad and makes me feel close.
We saw this in the theater and the movie was amazing! Different from the book a little.
But the book, written in 1941, moves quick and very well done.
I especially like the way Farley uses the perspective of the radio announcer to relay the race details.

Just as sweet and heartwarming as the movie I watched as a child. I'm so happy I finally got around to reading the book!
A boy is shipwrecked with a horse, tames the horse, gets to keep it, trains it to race. There are a lot of lucky coincidences in this book which I found irritating. The writing itself is fine, and the story moves along nicely, but the plot is quite simplistic.

This was one of my favorites when I was younger... That being said, I don't recall many of the details. It's been a while. I believe a re-read is required.
I cannot even begin to think about how many times I have read this book. No matter how old I get, the story is absolutely captivating. I adored the movie as a child. I started collecting all of the books and have read them so many times that some of them are falling apart. But this is the book that started it. All. The beautiful story of a boy and a wild black stallion stranded on an island and become the best of friends.

I read this several years ago (I must have been nine, ten, eleven when I did) and I liked it. It was pretty sad though.
